Local Missions

Be the hands and feet of Christ in the Local Community

City of Refuge (COR) champions the many organizations working diligently and prayerfully in the Houston community to meet local needs and spread the gospel to a broken world. COR partners with other organizations and individuals serving within our local community that align with COR's mission "to equip a diverse community of Christ-followers to make Him known".  COR financially supports specific individuals and organizations as determined by the Local Missions Team‘s recommendations in order to achieve Christ's goals through our mission.  The Team focuses on

(i) organizations within Houston’s Third Ward/South Union area, with emphasis on our ability to partner with the organizations,

(ii) individuals with personal connections to COR who undertake local Christian ministries, particularly with a focus on international and other students at local universities, and

(iii) COR-led missions work.  While COR may be able to offer financial assistance during the year, the Team generally reviews requests via a submission form opened in the fall for the upcoming year’s partners.

Please note that COR has worked with and continues to applaud the inspiring works of other local  organizations, many of whom directly serve our Greater Third Ward area. These agencies include The Forge for Families, The Freedom Alliance, Yellowstone Academy, Hope for Youth, and Restoration Church. You can contact these organizations directly if you wish to volunteer.

Periodically, we will post requests for volunteers, activities and other needs from our partners and other community organizations.

Serving Local Missions.  You can help Local Missions throughout the year.  We ask that you:
  1. Check this page to look for opportunities to serve with our partners.  We will note opportunities during church and in the church newsletter as well.
  2. Volunteer to serve on the Local Missions Team for at least a one-year commitment
  3. Send ideas to the team about how the church can serve and partner with others in our local community (Third Ward/South Union)
